Google has recently expanded AdSense's Adwords on to handheld devices. Although this new initiative is in its early stages it promises to be a good opportunity to expand the Adwords coverage and therefore the Hosting website's revenue (and of course Google's as well). Because handheld devices don't have the same web-browser capability as your desktop or laptop computer at home, if you're going to view a website from a palm-pilot or mobile phone then there has to be a mobile-phone compatible version of the site you’re trying to view. But because not everyone's site is phone-friendly the opportunity to take advantage of this new service falls only on those whose sites are already optimised for portable devices (both the hosting site for AdWords and the advertising site).
Google does however have very basic guidelines on how to ensure that your website will be usable on mobile phones with AdWords and how to ensure you're site is compliant with Google parameters. The new service will be free until the 19th of November this year, from when you will be expected to pay more to have your adverts displayed on portable devices. The original prices, if you do not want the additional mobile coverage, will still apply as far as I'm aware.
Despite the obvious advantages, there is the occasional murmur of 'what if the ads start clogging up the pages?' which is understandable. People don't want their portable internet to be sullied but I think Google has the Adsense (excuse the pun) not to overdo things or people will simply just stop using mobile internet.
