The UK's second most popular social networking site has recently been pinched by AOL for a plentiful $850 million (or the equivalent £418.68 million). Bebo being on the heels of MySpace and Facebook has a dominance in the UK, especially in Ireland and further afield in New Zealand it currently has 40 million unique users world-wide. Its acquisition places AOL in better stead in the social networking arena and adds to its treasured ‘personal communications suite'.

This new purchase will help fire AOL even further into the social battleground, They already have a popular and widely used instant messaging service which has been adopted by computers and mobile devices alike so adding Bebo to the mix allows for even more possibilities which I believe is the intended purpose for making the buy in the first place. Bebo has quite an extensive network of people going at the moment so AOL benefits from that to further increase use of its services and has a platform to integrate them into (having your AOL addy connected to your Bebo).

Bebo is popular and deservedly so, its ease and simplicity allows for a useful way of staying in touch with friends and its address book system is also able to categorise your contacts to allow you to keep track of large amounts of people, dividing them into work, family, school/college and so on. So it looks like a good buy all round and may give AOL some more youth credibility.
