Pay Per Click Advertising, or PPC as it is also known, is a system employed by many Search Engines to allow you pay for clicks to your website. This is not Search Engine Optimisation but does allow you to gain Hits to your website quickly.
PPC involbes you bidding against other sites on the Internet for the search terms that you wish to be found for. These are the results in Google™ that you will see listed down the right hand side of the screen or above the natural listings.
