CGI - Common Gateway Interface

CGI is a dynamic method (usually using the Perl or Pythin languages) to generate web pages and run scripts at a server.

As CGI scripts reload the language each time they are run, they are generally not used now where PHP, ASP or similar module-based application languages, which are more efficient, are available.

It should not be confused with the Hollywood term CGI, which refers to computer generated imagery by filmmakers who are unaware of the word "graphics".
