cHTML
Compact HTML (cHTML) is the language used by i-Mode. ACCESS, Fujitsu, Matsushita, Mitsubishi, NEC, and SONY submitted cHTML to the W3C as a markup language for "small information appliances".
cHTML, like Wireless Markup Language (WML) developed for use with Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) devices, was designed for low bandwidth and limited screen-size of portable telephones. The approach of cHTML was to exclude some of the feautres of HTML such as JPEG image support, tables and Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) support. This means that it is less-enabled, but may mean with familiarity it is easier for HTML users to develop cHTML than WML websites. (WML is an XML 1.0 based markup language.)
A typical device that cHTML was proposed for would have 128 to 512Kbytes of RAM and a 1 to 10 MIPS CPU. The display would feature fewer than 150 by 100 pixels, monocolour and a single-font. Input would be limited to numerical and a some other control buttons. The device is assumed to have a standard HTTP over TCP/IP connection, but with very limited transfer speed (~9.6kbps).
