DNS - Domain Name Servers

DNS is a system of 'address-books' of webservers, allowing quick access to billions of web documents globally.

The DNS system means that your local computer only has to remember a few internet locations, such as your ISP. DNS servers are consulted each time you want a new web-page, and tell your computer where to find it.
