Flash is a vector-based graphic technology used to create interactive presentations.
It is extremely powerful from a graphical and interactivity perspective, but not particularly search engine friendly, to say the least. Consequently, many websites that rely heavily on Flash for their main content struggle in search engines.
The best way to incorporate Flash into a website is to provide Flash as "extras" without which the website would still function and make sense. This ensures that Flash is used for cosmetic and interactive uses only, and not as a requirement of the navigation or main text content, both of which are relied upon by search engines.
