Hidden text

Hidden text is a general term used to describe various unethical methods of adding extra text, that is invisible to the user, to a web page in order to fool the search engines into giving that page a higher ranking than it deserves.

Methods used include making the text the same colour as the background, putting the text into a section which is styled as "hidden", or putting it into a section which is positioned off-screen.

All of these are regarded as spamming by the search engines and will incur penalties or expulsion from the search indices when discovered.
