HTML - HyperText Markup Language

HTML is 'markup' - a system of denoting structure in a text document.

There are extension to HTML that also allow elements of formatting, such as bold and italics. In the main, however, it is good practice, and usually helpful for SEO purposes, to separate content (HTML) from format (CSS).

HTML is a specific extension to SGML.
