i-mode

'i-mode' was developed by NTT DoCoMo, a subsidiary of Japan's telephone operator NTT, as a mobile internet access system.

i-mode became very popular in Japan after its lanch in 1999 but didn't become available in the UK until 2005.

i-mode uses cHTML (compact HTML), which is a subset of HTML. Also included are some special tags to, for exmset up a link which dials a telephone number or to inform search engines that the page is an i-mode page, etc.
