URI
URI - Uniform Resource Identifier
A URI is a reference to an online resource, either a name or a location.
Unlike a URL, a URI does not imply the location of a resource, although all URLs form a subset of URIs, and therefore it is possible that a URI will refer to a location.
Another type of URI is a URN (Uniform Resource Name) also sometimes called a namespace. For example, the URN urn:ISBN:0-395-36341-1 is a URI that, like an International Standard Book Number (ISBN), allows one to discuss a book, but doesn't suggest where or how to obtain it.
Originally, URI was an abbreviation fo Universal Resource Identifier. The name was changed, however, to imply a standard way of referencing the resource itself.
