Google has golden ideas on no-frills Orkut

Google has been plotting in secret about its currently unremarkable social networking site Orkut. According to Michael Arrington on Techcrunch a clandestine meeting was called in which twelve important members of Google where invited and told to sign a secrecy statement (scary huh?). Word on the grapevine is that Google intends to make a Facebook crushing Social Network that incorporates all Google App's and freely allows third party developments to improve it i.e. add gadgets, widgets etc. sort of like Facebook except Google will allow users to transfer data to and from the actual Google network. Google also wants to join together with other networks such as Bebo to create an all in one type network that spreads across all the different sites. Google hopes to mesh in search with this endeavour; its idea is that you would be able to join interest groups and share related Content with each other and to also narrow down search results to get the type of sites that you have said you're interested in (optionally of course).

The prospect of the Google SN assimilating all Google's creations into one seems pretty jaw-dropping and the product itself sounds like it will prove to be a worthy SN. The fact that Google is being passive-aggressive by its intention to include other networks into their own will sound like an alright deal for the other SNs, but at the end of the day Google is the one who’s going to gain more Hits because it will be the centralised source for social networking.
