A website can be the most cost efficent method of providing your services or products to a captive market. If you can get into the front page of the results in Google for a relevant well searched keyterm you can increase the profitability of your business greatly. When someone searches for anything it is for one of two main purposes. They are looking to buy or they are looking for information on an item or service. How to Make Your Site Rank

Making a site rank is both simple and extremely complicated. The goal of Google, and the other major search engines, is to return results for queries that are as relevant as possible. This means that all you have to do is make your internet document more relevant for a particular search query than other web document and you shall hold the number one position (I told you it was simple). Unfortunately making a web document relevant requires time, effort and knowledge.

What not to do to make your site rank!

Unethical Search Engine Optimization will make your site rank... in the short term and will kill you in the longterm. This cheats users, search engines and your site. When you are discovered for attempting to cheat your way up the search engine Rankings your site at worst can be removed from the indices. This means that you should not breach the terms and conditions listed in Google and Search Engine Ranking Instructions. The main things in relation to increasing your rank in Google Rankings and what are acceptable techniques and what is not include:

owns shadow domains
puts links to their other clients on doorway pages
offers to sell Keywords in the address bar
doesn't distinguish between actual search results and ads that appear in search results
guarantees ranking, but only on obscure, long keyword phrases you would get anyway
operates with multiple aliases or falsified WHOIS info
gets traffic from "fake" search engines, spyware, or scumware
has had domains removed from Google's index or is not itself listed in Google

If any search Engine Optimization tells you that they can make your site rank better through the use of any of these techniques run and run fast. Many sites have been damaged, some beyond repair, in the search engine rankings and this will make rankings far harder to achieve in the future than they were to achieve in the past.
