The Hallows Have Past But I've Just Seen A G.ho.st!

Online operating system for file storage

Now you know I'm not a fan of storing documents online but I couldn't resist with this one, this is G.ho.st an operating system that can be accessed from any computer anywhere. The operating system has the basic components of ye average desktop computer operating system; a launch bar, text editor, desktop with customisable wallpaper, desktop icons, shortcuts, spreadsheets, folders, clock and so on, I'd compare it to a very skinny Linux. This company has allowed every Thomas, Richard and Harold 3Gb's of free space and FTP access to your account for doing pig-all apart from sign up, no fees or anything.

Once you have uploaded a file(s) to your account you can access them from your storage folder and open them on the OS, you can also browse the web using a built in browser that you don't have to navigate away from the OS to use, although this is quite fun, the point of using a web browser to view a different web browser is kind of null; it does however have a good proxy that you can switch on and off easily. You can connect up 'games' to your desktop as if they where installed simply by finding say, a swf file on the net that you enjoy playing and add a Link to it on your desktop; the OS will open it up as a app which you can play on screen, images can be viewed in the built image viewer (strangely enough) even if the root of the image is on a different site (www.example.co.uk/test.jpg). I like the fact you can log off, view from somewhere else and your desktop is just how you left it so you can access your 'computer' from anywhere with internet on your friends/works/cafes computer.

As I say I'm not a fan of storing documents on sites that aren't mine, but this OS is childishly distracting and really struck my fancy. Although G.ho.st is in alpha testing and can be hellishly slow sometimes its well worth a look, I think with the right direction it could be a seriously big thing in future times.
