Google yet again is aiming for the stars (or ocean) as it is now doing work on a enormous cable that crosses the Pacific Ocean that will stabilise and improve communications between the U.S and Asian-European countries. The new cable will be exceptionally useful for a telephony system, which builds on the rumours that Google is creating some form of alpha-phone (A phone that's going to knock the backside's off the rest of the pride), but it's still early days to say anything definite. The idea of diving into the telecommunications industry would be yet another bold move from Google and is making major companies such as AT&T shift uncomfortably on their thrones. The cable would also ensure the huge amount of data-flow from Google's many new applications and services would run smooth as vodka and allow for much more future expansion. Building a cable across the Pacific will also open up a larger market in Asia where Google could work with Asian ISP's.
As said the possible 'GPhone' is a big threat to current telecommunications companies; although they're good at what they do, Google have dominated the internet search market in a measly 10 years so what's the chance they're going to make a significant dent in the phone market as well? The mythical GPhone has been the heated talk on many sites for a significant amount of time, it seems likely that Google will expand into telecommunications especially, hinted at by its new mobile internet ads but only time will tell. Companies such as Microsoft and Sprint will undoubtedly attempt to cut Google off at every turn if it does decide to follow this avenue but there doesn't appear to be much they can really do to stop 'The Google Expansion'.
